It’s Earth Day

Happy Earth Day, readers! This year’s theme, according to the Earth Day website, is Planet vs. Plastics.

Live simply so that others may simply live.” I had first heard that expression back in college. I’m pretty sure it was a women’s study class. Those words changed the way I thought about our connection to the Earth as living beings and our connection to each other as fellow human beings.

The concept of “going green” seems to be more prevalent nowadays, and I am all for it! Are people more conscientious now? Are eco-friendly habits a bit more affordable and attainable these days? In any case, every day should be Earth day.

Here are ways my family and I are decreasing our carbon footprint at home:

  • Swedish dish cloths
  • sustainable bamboo flooring
  • solar panels
  • electric and hybrid cars
  • backyard composting
  • eco-friendly cleaning products
  • reusable shopping bags
  • reusable water bottles
  • recycling as much as we can
  • organic foods when able- including food from our backyard garden, and eggs from friends
  • paperless bills
  • tankless water heaters
  • xeriscaped yard
  • donating items to thrift stores rather than trashing them

It’s not much, but we are trying to do our part. Perhaps some of these ideas might work for you? Every little bit helps. If you have any suggestions, please mention them in a comment below.

As always, thanks for stopping by. ❤
