North, East, South, West

A few weeks ago, my students were learning about latitude and longitude in one of their geography workbooks. It got me thinking about my upcoming trip and curious about the coordinates of the places to which my family and I are going. It was interesting to find that the latitudes of the Azores, Lisbon, and Madrid are not that far off from the latitude where I live. Somehow the world is so big, yet so small.

I also ended up researching the coordinates for the various locations I’ve traveled throughout my life and I made some fun discoveries! Using California as the starting point:

  • the farthest north I have ever been is Edinburgh, Scotland
  • the farthest east I have ever been is Paris, France
  • the farthest south I have ever been is the Big Island of Hawaii
  • the farthest west I have ever been is Molokai, Hawaii

I’m truly grateful that I’ve had so many opportunities to travel the world, explore the globe, and broaden my horizons. Don’t get me wrong, though, I’m also grateful just to relax on my hammock under the shady pecan tree in my backyard in this teeny-tiny part of the world that I call home.

As always, thanks for stopping by. ❤️
