Flashback Friday: New York, 2003

It’s been a challenge to come up with some new blog material, which is why my posts have been so sporadic. The travel series that I did a few years back seemed to be well-received, but I haven’t gone anywhere new in quite some time, so that won’t work. The talented Sheree at View from the Back has some great posts, but I don’t want to be a copy cat. So after some thought (and bugging my friends for their opinions), I’ve decided to try writing a Flashback Friday series on here for a little while and see how it goes.

And so to get it started, I thought this photo that I came across the other day on my Facebook memories would be great to share here for our first Flashback Friday!

This is Vicki, Suzanne, and me. We’re on a Manhattan ferry on our way to see the Statue of Liberty. πŸ—½

This photo was taken back in 2003, when a couple of friends and I went to New York for a short trip. I was in my early 20’s, almost done with college, and was living a carefree life. You can’t really see in the photo, but I was rocking pink rubber bands on my braces. Suzanne was doing an internship at the Smithsonian, so Vicki and I headed to the East coast to visit her and see New York and Washington, D.C. It was a whirlwind of sight-seeing, adventures, and memories.

Although I saw and experienced many incredible things during that short-but-grand adventure, one of the loveliest (and smallest) was seeing fireflies for the first time. After all these years, it’s curious how I literally just now recalled that part of the trip as I am typing this. Sad to say, I have not seen any fireflies since then.

As always, thanks for stopping by. ❀

  1. Love the idea of Flashback Friday!
I also miss seeing lightning bugs- Lucas being an East coast baby used to chase them around, and I would catch them and we’d peek through my hands to watch the little bug butts light up- then let them go. It is a wonderful memory I miss, too.

Can’t wait for the next Flashback!
