Street Markets

Summer always seems to be the best time to visit a farmer’s market or other outdoor/street market. There’s so much fresh, summer produce! Ripe tomatoes, juicy blueberries, crunchy cucumbers. There are fragrant bouquets of flowers. There are hand-crafted items made by skilled artisans. There are delicious cheeses, golden honeys, fun jewelry, homemade soaps, hand-carved wooden signs, plenty of samples of nearly everything, and so much more!

I’ve eaten Afghan food in a farmer’s market in the Bay Area. I’ve purchased a silver necklace charm at a farmer’s market in San Diego. I’ve sampled cinnamon sugar almonds in Monterey. I’ve found vibrantly painted pottery at a street market in Mexico. I’ve watched with rapt attention as the fish mongers tossed a fish around at the Pike Place Market in Seattle. I’ve admired street art along the Portobello Market in England. Sadly, due to covid19, I have not visited an outdoor market in about a year. I sure do miss it.

One of the largest markets I’ve ever had the pleasure of strolling through is Borough Market in England. I wish I had taken photos while I was there, but I was seven months pregnant, so I had other priorities. One such priority was eating something delicious after a long day of walking around London. After checking out a number of stalls and getting quite hungry, I sat down to rest a bit while my husband got me a huge plate of paella. It tasted so amazing!

Here are photos of some of the markets to which I’ve been.

Such a funny sign at this farmer’s market!

It’s important to give credit where credit is due. The idea for today’s blog post came from this post by the talented Sheree on her blog View from the Back. In turn, she got the idea from The Sandy Chronicles. Be sure to check them out.

What are some great farmer’s markets or street markets you love visiting? Feel free to tell me about them in the comments below.

As always, thanks for stopping by. ❀

  1. So true! You can find so many hidden gems at outside markets. I do believe you get a chance to learn something new about foods that maybe you wouldn’t have tried at a restaurant setting. I am having travel withdrawal, too. Maybe next year!
